Timyka Artist leaving WPXI for Cincinnati’s WCPO

After almost 10 years, Timyka Artist will be leaving her position as general assignment reporter at WPXI for a new position at ABC affiliate, WCPO in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she will be a weekend anchor. Her last day will be June 26.
“Pittsburgh has been the most amazing city. It really has become my second home. I don’t think there’s a city, that I can think of, that has a bigger heart than Pittsburgh,” said Artist. “I’ve just been so blessed to work here for as long as I have and it’s just been an amazing experience.” She added that she’ll miss her Channel 11 colleagues. “We’ve had a fun ride together.”
Artist said her new position at WCPO is a new challenge with an opportunity to not only anchor, something she has only done a few times at WPXI, but also grow and continue to develop her skills.
Vice President and General Manager of WPXI Ray Carter said, “(Artist) has a great attitude and has been a great employee. We’re saddened to lose her, but also happy for her new opportunity and it’s a great move for her career.”
Prior to joining WPXI in November 2006, Artist, a Philadelphia native, worked as the executive director of “Radio Times,” an talk show on WHYY, Philly’s NPR news station; an associate producer for Talk of the Nation in Washington, D.C.; and a producer, reporter and host for WUPW-TV in Toledo, Ohio, WTAE-TV, among others.

Along with her work in the field, Artist gives her service to several charities and boards that include the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Sojourner House, Amachi, the National Association of Black Journalists, just to name a few. She is also on the board of directors for the NHS Human Services Foundation.
Since her time in Pittsburgh, Artist has been recognized for her service with Addison Behavioral Health, as a Woman of Excellence by the New Pittsburgh Courier and as one of Pittsburgh’s Fifty Finest by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
When asked if she has a favorite stories that she has covered, Artist said she could not pinpoint just one because each story “is special and memorable to her.”
And while Artist may be moving to Cincinnati, she said she will always remain a die-hard Steelers fan.
