Just three years ago, Robert Griffin III had just come off winning college football’s Heisman Trophy, was the NFL rookie of the year, had become the toast of the pro football world and was about to marry his college sweetheart.
The magic carpet ride has crashed and burned for RG III, in more ways than one. With his career in tatters and probably on his last chance as an NFL starter, Griffin is now about to get a divorce, according to Cleveland.com.
The Cleveland Browns quarterack has separated from his wife and the two are in the process of filing for a divorce.
RG III married his college sweetheart, Rebecca Liddicoat, from Baylor University where Griffin darn reached legendary status. They tied the knot in 2013 and just last year she gave birth to a baby girl.
Griffin has already shared the news with his teammates and coaches that the marriage is a car crash and both parties are going their separate ways.
RG3 has already scrubbed his Instagram page of all traces of Rebecca, TMZ reports.
Griffin is not taking the divorce proceedings very well. Only time will tell if it will take a toll on his play on the gridiron come September 2016.
