
Hats Off to Mom Luncheon
MAY 9—Sisters Place will host its 8th Annual Hats Off to Mom Mother’s Day Luncheon from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Georgetown Centre, 526 E. Bruceton Rd., Pleasant Hills. This is a friend raiser as well as fundraiser that will honor local women for their various contributions. Honorees are Janice Cmar, Pamela Kelley, Shelia Walker, Dorothy Weldon and a Sisters Place resident. The award program will include a basket raffle, prizes and jewelry. Candidates Forum
MAY 9—The Western Pennsylvania Black Political Assembly, the African American Leadership Association, the Black Political Empowerment Project and other organizations will host a Candidates Forum from 12-4 p.m. at Pittsburgh Obama, 515 N. Journalism Workshop Applications
ONGOING—The Pittsburgh Black Media Federation is accepting applications for its 32nd annual Frank Bolden Urban Journalism Workshop to be held Aug. 1-8 at Point Park University, Downtown. Students who will be a high school junior or senior for the 2015-16 school year or those graduating high school in 2015 and are interested in pursuing a career in journalism are encouraged to attend this residential program led by media professionals. Students will produce print, online, photo, radio and television journalism projects. Applications must be submitted by June 1.
