I try not to believe in conspiracy theories, but sometimes I am convinced that “the news” that we receive is designed to mask the things that are important. The number one story that I have not bothered to comment on is the transition of Bruce Jenner aka Kaitlyn, where he graced the cover of Vanity Fair—I was astounded. On the cover he looked good, thanks to a good job of airbrushing. However, when you see photos that have not been airbrushed he looks horrible.
I am not opposed to anyone in the LBGT community. I am a big fan of RuPaul and Laverne Cox, who both wear being a woman well. RuPaul actually looks good as both. Perhaps the issue is how we were introduced to both. With Jenner our introduction was via the Olympics as a man. There are two other men who are transgender, both are helicopter pilots in California. Ironically they worked for rival television stations during the O. J. Simpson slow speed chase, it seems their sex change has brought them closer together. They too look awful as women. Look in the mirror guys, you looked better as gay men than women. As they say on the Internet, “I’m just saying.”
The bill was passed to remove the confederate flag from the state building in South Carolina. The supporters of the stars and bars need to get over the fact that the flag cannot fly over a public building, you are “free” to fly it in front of your house and just about anywhere else that you would like to display it. I hope you do fly it; your display of the confederate flag will let people know who they are dealing with.
In Atlanta, a person has spent their own money for a billboard that says, “Show your mind not your behind.” The billboard shows a young Black man in a cap and gown and then the backend of a young man with his pants sagging almost to his thighs. I hope these billboards catch on.
Some good news to share, I saw it on Facebook, Kim Coles got married. Coles played Sinclair on “Living Single” and recently shared pictures of her destination marriage on Facebook. Speaking of weddings, how many of you have seen a “broach bouquet?” A friend of mine got married in Little Rock, Ark., and she posted a picture of a broach bouquet on her Facebook page. It was unique and beautiful. It was a round bouquet of flowers with dozens of rhinestone broaches. I was able to participate in her wedding by sending a broach. Last week, she posted the completed bouquet and I could see my broach. It made me feel like I was a part of the ceremony from afar. What a great idea.
Now back to some local news…there are a lot of Black homeowners in Penn Hills, please pay attention to the school tax issues that we are getting ready to encounter. People read your Penn Hills Progress, it comes in the mail for free.
