Vice President Kamala Harris’ approval ratings appear to be surging as former President Donald Trump is seemingly falling in the polls ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

On Sunday (July 28), ABC News/Ipsos released a new poll showing that Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee, had a favorability rating of 43 percent, which is up 8 points from a poll conducted before President Joe Biden ended his bid for the presidency.

Harris’ unfavorability also fell from the 46 percent recorded in the previous poll to 42 percent.

In contrast, Trump’s favorability rating fell from 40 percent to 36 percent in Sunday’s poll. The initial poll was conducted the week after Trump officially was named the GOP nominee at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and following his attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Harris’ favorable polling comes after the vice president reportedly raised more than $200 million in the first week of her presidential campaign.

According to the ABC News/Ipsos poll, 88 percent of Democrats and 70 percent of Black voters are enthusiastic about Harris’ campaign. Harris has also seen a bump in her favorability among independent voters with an approval rating of 48 percent, up from the 28 percent from last week.
