Roderick "Rick" Mason, Jr., knows The Pittsburgh Project from the classroom to the executive office. Hired as an after-school teacher in 2009, he advanced through program and leadership roles before becoming Executive Director, bringing firsthand knowledge of the families and young people it serves.

Working alongside staff and the board, Mason helped eliminate more than $900,000 in organizational debt, refocus programming around youth and families, and position the nonprofit for a sustainable future.

The faith-based North Side organization provides academic support, mentoring, enrichment and leadership development through after-school and summer programs. Mason's approach centers on caring relationships that help young people recognize their gifts and potential.

Originally from Maryland, he moved to Pittsburgh to attend the University of Pittsburgh, earning a psychology degree and beginning his nonprofit career.

With more than 20 years of service, Mason combines financial stewardship with community commitment. His Christian faith and North Side roots ground leadership dedicated to sharing hope and strengthening opportunities for families.
