Lyle David Harris

For Coach Lyle David Harris, the “Men of Excellence” honor from the New Pittsburgh Courier is fuel to keep doing “The Work.”

A proud son of Wilkinsburg’s Hunter Park neighborhood. A husband. Father of nine. Kidney transplant survivor. Probation counselor. Entrepreneur. Actor. Minor League Football Hall of Fame inductee. And most importantly, a servant leader.

Coach Harris has coached football from Pop Warner to Minor League Professional. Lyle served as head coach of the Pittsburgh Power and currently coaches at at Woodland Hills High School under head coach Brian Tarant as a Volunteer Offensive Line assistant.

For more than two decades in juvenile justice, youth development, mentorship and love, Coach Harris has stood in the gap for young men, women and families too often measured by mistakes instead of possibilities. Coach Harris has worked for the Allegheny County community intensive supervision program, known as C.I.S.P., in multiple Pittsburgh communities.

Coach Harris, over his career, has also worked as a supervisor for Penny Lane in Southern California, serving youth, peers, adults, and families needing more love than supervision.

Coach Harris’ work extends beyond the field and counseling folks. Through Harris Assets and Holdings, he helped families move into fully remodeled homes worth more than they could afford, yet priced within their budget, where they could simply put their things down and start living. As an actor, he appeared in movies, infomercials, and multiple commercials with national and international reach.
