INVOLVED IN A BIG WAY—Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Ryan Clark stands on the sidelines late the fourth quarter of a Steelers’ 13-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Pittsburgh in 2012. Clark has never been afraid to speak his mind. That blunt honesty—and a work ethic forged from a decade in the NFL—is one of the reasons his teammates made the veteran a captain for the first time in his career. (AP Photo/Gene J. Every last symbol of Pittsburgh's time playing football in the Big East has vanished, as if the program hit control/alt/delete to erase two decades of only sporadic success. The school's fresh start in the Atlantic Coast Conference has pumped life into every corner of the athletic department. Nowhere is it more evident than in the sport that triggered the biggest conference shakeup in major college sports history.

Thomas told coach Paul Chryst Wednesday morning he no longer wanted to be part of the team. The decision comes a day after Thomas was bumped to second string on the depth chart as the Panthers began training camp.

by Bill Neal BILL NEAL * So that you're caught up, the Finish Line is about just that. The end. A conclusion. A final thought if you will. Some things for you to reconsider before it's over. Before you cross the finish line. * There are roughly a trillion or so TV and radio stations in the Pittsburgh and Allegheny County areas, but for some unknown reason there is no, none, zero conversation about the NBA finals. The Penguins have been dead for a month. The Pirates have "90" more games. The Power . . . well, they have no power. No Pitt or college anything and the Steelers are two months away. But there is no conversation about the NBA. And for the record, now the 2nd highest grossing sport in the U.S., behind the NFL . . . hockey is 4th. Why? I don't know. But if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks . . . then guess what?
