Farmers market
NOV. 19—The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture will host the Market Square Farmers Market at 10 a.m. at Gateway Center Plaza, Commonwealth Place, Downtown. Area farmers will have more than 50 varieties of produce, pastas and smoked meats. PASA is a nonprofit organization that seeks to transform agriculture and food systems in Pennsylvania in a way that makes farmers more viable, improves the land and restores the health and well-being of citizens.
Housing seminar
NOV. 21—The Mon Valley Initiative will host a Purchase Housing Workshop from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 303/305 E. 8th Ave., Homestead. The Mon Valley Initiative is a non-profit leader in the development of homeownership. All participants who successfully complete this Housing and Urban Development curriculum will receive a certificate, which is required to obtain community development mortgage loans from local lenders. Benefit gala
NOV. 21—The African American Heritage House of the Homewood Art Museum will host a Benefit Gala at 5:30 at Churchill Country Club, Beulah Rd., Churchill. There will be a silent auction with memorabilia from Pittsburgh sports teams, artwork and more. The guest auctioneer will be L.C. Greenwood of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Local recognition
NOV. 21—Iota Phi Foundation of the Iota Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will host a Recognition Dinner at 7 p.m. at Rodef Shalom, 4905 Fifth Ave., Oakland. The foundation honors men who demonstrate superior leadership in the areas of business, medicine, education and community. This year’s honorees are Keith Key, Dr. Leon R. Thanksgiving dinner
NOV. 26—The Gateway Clipper Fleet will host their Thanksgiving Day Dinner Cruise at 3 p.m. at 350 W. Station Square Dr., Station Square. Celebrate Thanksgiving with this 2-1/2-hour cruise along Pittsburgh’s three rivers while enjoying a turkey buffet with all the trimmings. Jazz classics
DEC. 2—The Point Park University Black Student Union will host the Soul Food Social: Jazz Classics at 7 p.m. at the university’s Ballroom, 201 Wood St., Downtown. The keynote speaker will be Candi Castleberry-Singleton of UPMC. She will speak on the importance of diversity and inclusion in today’s society. Forensic training
DEC. 3—Mercy Behavioral Health, the Allegheny Engagement Network and others will host “From Arrest to Treatment: Behavioral Health and the Criminal Justice System” from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Allegheny County Human Services Building, One Smithfield St., Downtown. This is a free forensic training for homeless providers, case managers and more. You will learn more about the judicial process from arrest to court-mandated treatment for adults. Divabetic
DEC. 5—The West Penn Allegheny Health System will host Divabetic from 1-4 p.m. at West Penn Hospital Conference Center and Wintergarden, 4800 Friendship Ave., Bloomfield. This is a program designed for women with diabetes. Max Szadek, Mr. Divabetic and the Divabetic Team, will show women how to live life with diabetes like a diva. The event is free. Food drive
ONGOING—The Dinwiddie Community Alliance will host a Food Drive from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the James F. Henry Hill House Center lobby, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District.
