SEPT. 26—Small Seeds Development Inc. will host its Signature Event from 5-9 p.m. at the LeMont Restaurant, 1114 Grandview Ave., Mt. Washington. There will be dinner, a silent auction and music by the Kevin Howard Duo. The honorees are the late Gwendolyn “Gwen” Elliot, Mark Lewis, Judith Mason, Joseph Mertz, PhD, and Dr. Jeanette South-Paul. Senior Prom
SEPT. 29—Allen Place Community Services Inc. and the North Hills Ebony Women Inc. will host the 2013 Pittsburgh Senior Prom from 5-10 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Greentree Doubletree by Hilton, 500 Mansfield Ave., Greentree. The theme is “Building Community Partnerships for Health Equity.” This will be a night of health education, food, dancing, fun and prizes. Town Hall Forum
OCT. 2—The Allegheny County Department of Human Service’s Allegheny Link to Aging and Disability Resources, the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Social Work and Law, and the Allegheny County APPRAISE Program will host a Town Hall Forum on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh’s University Club, 123 University Place, Oakland. There will be a panel discussion by experts and a question-answer session. Registration is required by Sept. 30 and seating is limited. Walter Allen Memorial Series
OCT. 3—The Alzheimer Disease Research Center’s Alzheimer Outreach Center of the University of Pittsburgh will host the 2013 Walter Allen Memorial Seminar Series at 2 p.m. at the Hill House Kaufmann Center, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District. The topic will be “How Proper Planning Can Avoid the Need for Guardianship” and will be presented by Lawrence A. Frolik, JD, of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law. Heritage Day Parade
OCT. 5—The Committee for the African-American Heritage Day Parade will host the African-American Heritage Day Parade from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Downtown. This is a rain or shine event, and it will take place throughout the streets of downtown Pittsburgh. The parade will begin at the Boulevard of the Allies and Stanwix Street and end at the August Wilson Center, where there will be activities to follow from 1-4 p.m. Nationally acclaimed sculptor Thaddeus Mosley will be the grand marshal.
