PITTSBURGH – Mayor-Elect Bill Peduto announced this morning his intention to open up to city residents, through the Talent City program, applications for all at-will employment positions in city Departments as well as appointments to Boards, Commissions and Authorities, under the new Peduto Administration.
“Building a new Pittsburgh requires us to look outside of the typical channels and locate talented individuals who want to join us and work hard on behalf of city residents,” said Peduto.
Coming on the heels of his announcement yesterday of the formation of his Mayoral cabinet, Mayor-Elect Peduto is intentionally signaling that the days of cronyism and patronage are over.
The Mayor-Elect is meeting this afternoon with the oversight committee of Talent City, the program established through a partnership between The Pittsburgh Foundation and the University of Pittsburgh Institute of Politics, to finalize plans for city residents to apply for appointments within the Peduto Administration.
The Peduto transition team is sending letters today to all existing Directors, at-will employees, and members of Boards, Authorities and Commissions currently holding these positions in the Ravenstal Administration, to explain the Talent City process and invite them to re-apply.
“Everyone will be given an opportunity to apply, decisions will be made based on talent, and nobody will be evaluated based upon who they supported at the ballot box,” said Peduto.
All such positions are expected to be posted to the Talent City website (located at https://www.talent-city.org/) by mid-November.
The oversight committee will review applications and make recommendations to the Mayor-Elect for his final selection prior to the commencement of the Peduto Administration in January.
