Pittsburgh Arts in France Program launched

PITTSBURGH, PA – A program that will expand the international landscape of the Pittsburgh regional arts scene is was launched at an event on Nov. 21 at The Frick Art Museum highlighted by a series of performances by premiere arts organizations.
Congressman Mike Doyle, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Mayor-Elect Bill Peduto were all present to support the effort.
The new program will allow regional visual and performing arts groups an affordable opportunity to create, study, rehearse and partner with international groups at a monastery in southwestern France.

Saint Francis University of Loretto, Pennsylvania, manages a picturesque, renovated centuries-old monastery and is opening the historic location in Ambialet, France to both visual and performing Pittsburgh arts groups in the summer of each year to enjoy the atmosphere of beauty and creativity of the glorious Tarn Valley.
The first three courses to be offered will commence in the summer of 2014 and will include: painting and drawing with instructor Ron Donoghue, photography by renowned professor Sue Abramson, and individual and group instruction by members of The Clarks and Jim Donovan, a founder of Rusted Root.
Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts will administer and assist in the promotion of the program.

Entertainment at the launch included performances by The Six including members of The Clarks and Rusted Root, and Neter Califati performing songs by the incomparable Edith Piaf, a dramatic dance performance by Attack Theatre and a poem written exclusively for the evening’s theme by Vanessa German.
