When some people retire, they generally take things down a notch and take life at a more leisurely pace. If you’re Patricia Prattis Jennings, you publish the book you’ve been thinking about.
Jennings, Westinghouse High School alumna and daughter of former Pittsburgh Courier editor P.L. Prattis, was a contributing columnist for the Post-Gazette while serving as the principal keyboardist (piano) for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Jennings retired in 2006 after 40 years (and also broke the PSO color line when she began her tenure in 1966). Her book debut, “In One Era and Out the Other: Essays on Contemporary Life,” was feted with a Nov. 17 book signing reception at Mendelson Gallery on Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside. The book is a compilation of the P-G columns and from her blog.
