JAN. 8—UPMC East will host its Monroeville-Mall Walker Program Screening and Education Event from 7-9:30 a.m. at Monroeville Mall, Lower Level, 200 Mall Circle Dr., Monroeville. Healthy Happy Hour
JAN. 9—Fresh From the Farm Juices, MyoFitness, Duquesne University Psychology Clinic and the National Society of Black Engineers will host the “Healthy Happy Hour: New Year, New You” from 6-8 p.m. at Fresh From the Farm Juices, 1330 Bingham St., South Side. This is a non-alcoholic social event spotlighting juice smoothies made from raw fruits and vegetables. This is in support of the goal to live healthier and also provide a new way to socialize. Also, a MyoFitness trainer and Duquesne therapist will give brief presentations on physical and mental tips. Free Career Development Classes
JAN. 15– Pennsylvania Women Work will host free Career Development & Computer Classes through the New Choices Program from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Homewood YWCA, 6907 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. This will be a five-week course that will focus on Microsoft Word, career development, resume writing, goal setting, personality testing, networking and more. Registration is requested. Spirit of King
JAN. 16—Port Authority of Allegheny County, the Kingsley Association, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New Pittsburgh Courier will host the 2014 Spirit of King Award Ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Kingsley Center, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty. King Birthday Celebration
JAN. 19—The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee will host its Annual Dr. King Birthday Celebration at 5 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 149 Virginia Ave., Rochester, Pa. Unity Breakfast
JAN. 20—The North Hills Unity Breakfast Committee will host the 14th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at LaRoche College, the Zappala Student Center, 9000 Babcock Blvd., North Hills. Tony Norman, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, will deliver the keynote address and Alexis Warner will receive the 2014 Spirit of Unity Award. Seating is limited and registration is required. Passport to Success
JAN. 22—The Community College of Allegheny County will host its Passport to Success from 6-8 p.m. at all locations. The theme is “Avoid Baggage Fees-CCAC Can Get You to Your Destination Without a Lifetime of Debt.” Every month through April, CCAC will offer workshops that explore in-depth a topic relevant to those considering a college education.
