Free Health Education Event
JAN. 8—UPMC East will host its Monroeville-Mall Walker Program Screening and Education Event from 7-9:30 a.m. at Monroeville Mall, Lower Level, 200 Mall Circle Dr., Monroeville. A health coach will be on hand to discuss menu planning and simple changes for a healthier diet and lifestyle. Walkers of all levels are invited. For more information, visit www.upmc.com/media.
Healthy Happy Hour
JAN. 9—Fresh From the Farm Juices, MyoFitness, Duquesne University Psychology Clinic and the National Society of Black Engineers will host the “Healthy Happy Hour: New Year, New You” from 6-8 p.m. at Fresh From the Farm Juices, 1330 Bingham St., South Side. This is a non-alcoholic social event spotlighting juice smoothies made from raw fruits and vegetables. This is in support of the goal to live healthier and also provide a new way to socialize. Tech Symposium
JAN. 10—The Homewood Nation and Thornhill & Studio will host the “29 Tablets” Tech Symposium from 1-4 p.m. at the Homewood Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, 7101 Hamilton Ave., Homewood. This is an examination of local, domestic and international suppliers and potential partners for the design and manufacture of tablet computers in Homewood and Pittsburgh. Free Career Development Classes
JAN. 15– Pennsylvania Women Work will host free Career Development & Computer Classes through the New Choices Program from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Homewood YWCA, 6907 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. This will be a five-week course that will focus on Microsoft Word, career development, resume writing, goal setting, personality testing, networking and more. Registration is requested. Meeting with the Mayor
The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will host an Evening Meeting with Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto at 6 p.m. at the Engineers Society, 337 Fourth Ave., Downtown. Spirit of King
JAN. 16—Port Authority of Allegheny County, the Kingsley Association, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New Pittsburgh Courier will host the 2014 Spirit of King Award Ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Kingsley Center, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty.
