Anniversary Celebration
MAY 28—Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Children, Youth and Families will host the Dads Assisting Dads Support Program (DADS) 4th Anniversary Celebration from 6-8 p.m. at 400 N. Lexington St., Training Room #3, Homewood. This will be an evening of food, fellowship and celebration. There will be presentations from guest speakers the Hon. Guido DeAngelis, the Hon. Leadership Awards Luncheon
MAY 29—The YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh will host its 32nd Annual Tribute to Women Leadership Awards Luncheon from 12-1:30 p.m. at the Westin Hotel, 1000 Penn Ave., Downtown. Honorees for the afternoon event include Lisa M. Kuzma, Lucille Prater-Holiday, M.J. Tocci, posthumous, Kimberlee Evert, Shakita Triggs and La’Tasha D. Mayes. The Allerton Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Mary Kay Poppenberg and the mistress of ceremonies will be Peggy Finnegan, of WPXI-TV. Reservations are requested by May 21. Basketball Camp
MAY 30—Jay Latimer will host the Junior Day Camp from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Thelma Lovette YMCA, 2114 Centre Ave., Hill District. The camp is designed for boys ages 9-14 and will focus on the fundamentals of basketball, while providing a fun and positive environment. Registration is required. Gateway to Wellness
MAY 31—Gateway Medical Society will host Gateway to Wellness: Learning to Live Well from 7;30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Herberman Conference Center, UPMC Shadyside Hospital Campus, 5150 Centre Ave., Shadyside. There will be an adult and youth program with activities and discussions, along with a continental breakfast, lunch and health screenings. Registration is required by May 23. Day of Unity
JUNE 14—Seshemet Community Council and Sankofa United will host A Day of Unity in the Community from 3-6:30 p.m. at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum, 7310 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. Guest speaker Dr. Umar Johnson, educator, psychologist and Pan Africanist, will speak on the topic “The Academic War Against Black Boys.” There will be a Q & A session following the lecture.
