Benefit Banquet
AUG. 28— Macedonia Baptist Church in the Hill District, FACE, will host its 4th Annual Friend of Children Benefit Banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn University of Pittsburgh, 3454 Forbes Ave., Oakland. Meet and Greet

Operation HOME
AUG. 30—The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh will host its Operation HOME workshop from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, 610 Wood St., Downtown. This is an intensive homeownership program that equips potential interested homebuyers with a basic understanding of how to travel the path to mortgage qualification and maintaining homeownership. Back-to-School Drive
AUG. 30—The Community Empowerment Association will host a Back-to-School Supply Drive from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Gazebo in Homewood, at North and Frankstown Avenues, in Homewood. School supplies will be distributed to underprivileged students in the community. Donations of supplies will be collected at the CEA Arts, Cultural and Training Institute, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. Community Awareness/Back-to-School
SEPT. 1—BMP in Association with STV-Pixburgh will host the Community Awareness Day/ Back-to-School Festival from 2-8 p.m. on Smallman Street between 16th and 18th Street, in the Strip District. The free festival will include live entertainment, food, giveaways, and activities for kids, speakers and an award ceremony. Faith Works Tribute
SEPT. 11—The NAACP Pittsburgh Unit will host a Faith Works Tribute from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Long Hall Building, 616 N. Highland Ave., East Liberty. Veterans Health Update
SEPT. 13—Gateway Medical Society will host the Veterans Health Update for Community Healthcare Providers from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Herberman Conference Center, UPMC Shadyside Hospital Campus, 5150 Centre Ave., 2nd floor, Shadyside. The Soul Café
SEPT. 13—The Pittsburgh Black Media Federation will host “The Soul Café: A Celebration of African-American Sights, Songs and Stories” at 7 p.m. at Roland’s Seafood Grill, 1904 Penn Ave., Strip District. The co-hosts for the evening will be Brian Cook of American Urban Radio Network and Brittny McGraw of WPXI-TV. This is a college scholarship fundraiser.
