West Homestead police arrested Northview Heights shooting suspect Paul Kendrick, 19, early Tuesday morning. He is charged with criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy in connection with the Aug. 1 homicide of 21-year-old Maurice Freeman.
Freeman was shot at the housing complex after a game of basketball. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he later died.
Pittsburgh Police had issued a warrant for Kendrick nearly three-weeks ago, on Aug. 7., after witnesses identified him.
He was apprehended after a vehicle he was riding in was stopped when police became suspicious that the driver was driving under the influence.
Kendrick’s arrest comes only days after a shooting that claimed the life of a Hill District woman and wounded her mother on the evening of Aug. 22.
Pittsburgh Police are still seeking the shooters that left Tina Crawford, 34, dead and her mother, Patsy Crawford, seriously injured, after they opened fire on the garage of their home in the 900 block of Cherokee Street. Patsy Crawford was struck twice in the hip and taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
Sonya Toler, Pittsburgh Public Safety Department spokesperson, said no suspects in this case have been arrested and that no further information was available.
It has been reported that Crawford was set to meet with investigators concerning information in drug case.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 412-323-7161.
