Atlanta Hawks Playoff Game 1 TV Ratings Skyrocket

NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Brooklyn Nets

ATLANTA — With many more wins comes many more viewers — hundreds of thousands more.

According to team officials, the Hawks’ first-round playoff game against the Brooklyn Nets on April 19 had a 104 percent surge in ratings and more than doubled the number of viewers who watched the Hawks’ first playoff game against the Indiana Pacers exactly one year ago.

The game versus the Bucks, which was broadcast on TNT and SportSouth, received a combined household rating of 9.77, with 399,000 people across the two networks watching the contest.

As a comparison, in 2014 the Hawks first playoff game against the Pacers, which was shown on ESPN and SportSouth, drew a combined viewership of 4.77 and seen by just 144,000 fans.

SportSouth also reported a 110 percent rise in viewership of people between the ages of 18-34 compared to the 2014 postseason game one.

Atlanta Hawks fever is at an all time high, which not coincidentally corresponds with the franchise boasting at all-time team record for wins with 60, earning the team their first No. 1 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference of the NBA and getting their second-year coach Mike Budenholzer the NBA Coach of the Year award.

Game 2 of the Hawks-Nets contest will air on Fox Sports South and NBA TV at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
