Pittsburgh Bureau of Police are asking for the community’s help in the search of the gunmen who entered a Marshall-Shadeland barbershop and fatally shot its owner on July 25.

According to a release, 45-year-old Lamar Thomas was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head in his barbershop, L-S Connection Barber & Braids, in the 2600 block of Stayton Street in Marshall-Shadeland. Officers who were responding to a call of shots fired found Thomas shortly before 6 p.m.

He had opened the establishment approximately two months earlier.

While it appears that nothing has been taken, possibly ruling out a burglary, Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Sonya Toler said the intent of the actor or actors is still unknown.

“As in all crimes, it is vital that anyone with information about what transpired share the information with investigators,” Toler said.

Family, friends and concerned community members gathered just one day after the shooting to plead for the violence to end and for witnesses to come forward to give Thomas and his family some justice.

This is just one of many rash shooting incidents that have taken place in Pittsburgh’s North Side area during the month of July; and the second in that area to be fatal.

Last week, in an article on the weekend’s recent shootings, it was reported that authorities believe many of the city’s shooting incidents have been retaliatory.

The New Pittsburgh Courier took to Facebook to ask its readers for their opinions on the shootings and what needs to be done to end them; many were not shy.

Caprice Scott wrote, “We used to have community centers in your neighborhoods and mentoring programs….when you have nothing to do they start acting a fool..cant have nothing nice cause ur afraid of ruining it for others..all youth arent bad!!!”

Facebook friend Marvette Law-Hancock suggested,” Where are all these illegal guns coming from? Follow the money and find out where they are being transported from.”

But it was the comment of Nicole Hutchinson that received some of the most “Likes.” She wrote, “The reason why these young men are acting like fools is because they have been raised immoral. With no values, ethics or proper upbringing? Parents need to pay more attention to their children when they are younger. Because now we have a lost generation coming along without any sense. I pray for them all.”

Anyone with information on the shooting death of Thomas is asked to call 9-1-1.
