ATLANTA — Georgia highway safety officials stated that law enforcement will be posted up strong on the highways during the Labor Day weekend trying to prevent drunk driving.

Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Harris Blackwood says increased patrols, sobriety checkpoints and more visibility are part of a national safety campaign from Aug. 21 to Sept. 7, according to the Associated Press.

At this same time a year ago, the state of Georgia had 15 traffic deaths and more than 1,200 injuries during the Labor Day weekend.

The good news is that the number was down from the 22 people killed during accidents in 2013, the newspaper stated.
