It isn’t taking long for State Police Commissioner Tyree C. Blocker to put his stamp on the organization. Less than two weeks after the state senate confirmed his nomination as commissioner, Blocker has announced that the latest push for new recruits is aimed at increasing the agency’s diversity.
“We are dedicated to having a force that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve,” said Blocker in a Dec. 18 press release. “We must hire the individuals who have a genuine interest in providing quality service through leadership to the people of the Commonwealth.”
The state police bureau is comprised of 4,719 troopers, 1850 civilian employees divided among 16 troops, each of which occupies five to seven stations. So far this year, the agency has graduated and assigned 407 new troopers, with the latest class of 83 announced earlier this month.
