:09—Now Here’s the Details: When history was made in Pittsburgh, and most especially the Black community, only one source brought you the news and the facts as they happened. That tradition continues as the New Pittsburgh Courier will once again team with Achieving Greatness Inc., Highmark, Pittsburgh Board of Education, the Mayor’s Office of the City of Pittsburgh, the Office of the Chief Executive of Allegheny County, Chuck Sanders Charities and UPMC to present the 2017 Pittsburgh City League High School Hall of Fame Inductions. Pre-Hall of Fame reception at the Savoy, Oct. 6, 6 p.m. until…and the Hall of Fame inductions are at the August Wilson Center, Oct. 7. Cocktail reception, 6 p.m., award presentations, 7 p.m. Follow your New Pittsburgh Courier for more details.
:08—Ordinarily, I would tell you not to get excited over a Steelers preseason game except…I’m excited. Man, they looked good. And I’ll remind you what Chuck Noll said…“If the games didn’t matter, they wouldn’t play them!” Quote “The Emperor” Chuck Noll forever more!
:07—Speaking of getting excited, I think it’s safe to maintain a level of excitement for your Pittsburgh Pirates. Still holding tight in third place behind the Cubs and the Cards. (Still just building up for a second-place finish to keep ya smilin’!)
:06—Usain Bolt ends his career as a human being. Finishing third in his trademark 100 meters and coming up lame in the 4×100, as if he has anything in “the world” to worry about.
:05—There was a major golf tournament of some kind, somewhere and somebody won, but as you know, not my thing. Just be happy I told you about it. Now keep it moving!!!
:04—Did someone say Earth…Wind…and Fire!!! Well you should have been there. That’s all I can tell ya. I mean, simply amazing and how Phillip Bailey can still hit those super high notes is beyond unbelievable. It was, in fact, 1979 again with advanced technology and sound.
:03—Pittsburgh City League football is here. Parents, be supportive, be involved, be concerned…but let it be from a distance. Let your children play the game, play the instruments and do the cheering. You just play parent.
:02—Get ready to get ready. “The Great White Party” and Car Show! At the Savoy, Saturday, September 2. Come dressed in your best white. DJ at the car show, all great cars welcomed. $10 car registration and party ticket. First, second and third-place trophies for best car on-site. Party continues inside until 10 p.m. Call 412-628-4856 to register your car.
:01—Last word to the wise. When you come to the detour sign at the corner of Homewood and Frankstown that says N. Korea to the right…you better turn your butt to the left!
:00—GAME OVER.
