Pennsylvania reported only one new COVID-19 death Monday.

This was the first time the number of reported deaths fell so low since March 21, only three days after the state’s first reported COVID-19 death, according to the state’s dashboard.

The week of Aug. 16 was the first week in which the state reported fewer than 10 COVID-19 deaths each day of the week since March.

The Allegheny County Health Department reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, Aug. 24, bringing the county total to 9,932 reported cases.

With no new deaths reported, the total deaths remains at 306 in Allegheny County since the start of the pandemic.

The newest COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours were from 690 tests, which were conducted from Aug. 17 to Aug. 22. Those cases were from patients ranging in age from 18 to 94 years old with the median age being 45.

The Allegheny County Health Department is no longer reporting the number of new patients hospitalized. Data on statewide hospitalizations can be found here.

Pennsylvania reported 426 new cases, bringing the statewide case count to 129,474 with 7,579 deaths reported.

The state Department of Health reported most hospitalizations and deaths are in patients age 65 and older.

There are, however, significant increases in COVID-19 cases among younger demographics, particularly 19 to 24 year olds. In Southwestern Pennsylvania, that age group accounted for about 5% of cases in April and nearly 12% of cases so far in August.

County-specific information and a statewide map are available on the COVID-19 Data Dashboard.
