Director of Equity & Inclusion
Port Authority is seeking a Director of Equity and Inclusion, the Director of Equity & Inclusion is a new role at Port Authority. This will be the inaugural position in creating an equity-focused team that will initially create a program for employees that will support and encourage equity in their internal and external business dealings, and will grow to encompass land use, planning decisions, technology considerations, and other business areas to extend the concept of equity.
This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and works closely with the Director of Employee Relations / Office of Equal Opportunity and Director of Employment & Development and their respective teams. The Director of Equity & Inclusion will ensure that equity and inclusion programs and policies are in line with the Port Authority’s strategic plan and objectives. Understanding external and emerging trends and transferring these to the agency’s cultural environment and to the diversity of the workforce is key.
Working with the CHRO, the Director of Equity & Inclusion analyzing existing programs and policies and presenting recommendations for improvements or enhancements that promote and encourage equity throughout the Port Authority. This position develops and promotes training programs to enhance employee understanding on inclusions issues.
This role acts as a HR consultant for equity issues and is tasked with, and should go beyond, ensuring the organization follows appropriate legislation and employment law regulations and best practices around bias and inclusion with regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, protected veteran status, or disability.
Essential Functions:
•Under the direction of the CHRO and in partnership with the HR management team, driving all the work streams associated with the agency-wide Equity & Inclusion (E&I) strategy and program development. Work with the CHRO and the HRIS Specialist in maintaining and enhancing the measurements associated with the strategy. This long term plan will start with a focus in Human Resources and should grow to impact a broad variety of agency functions
•Researching and advising on E & I issues and making recommendations for enhancing programs, policies, and training workshops and developing a comprehensive E&I program. The Director of Equity & Inclusion is dedicated to the continual enhancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion policies and best practices.
•Supporting the development and implementation of learning activities to educate varied employee groups, including represented, non-represented, managerial, supervisory and front-line personnel, about inclusion and unconscious bias, e.g., providing consultation and coaching to managers and supervisors to improve cross-cultural communication.
Job requirements include:
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline.
•Minimum of eight (8) years of experience leading diversity programs.
•Minimum of two (2) years of experience developing and conducting diversity and inclusion training.
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and provide leadership in organizational change.
•Knowledge and proven expertise on “leading practice” diversity initiatives.
•Effective interpersonal skills.
•Effective oral and written communication skills.
•Demonstrated project and time management skills.
Preferred attributes:
•Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
•Diversity and Inclusion experience in the Transportation Industry is preferred.
•Diversity and Inclusion experience with a represented workforce is preferred.
•Diversity and Inclusion experience with a government agency is preferred.
