Allegheny County reports 264 new cases in past 48 hours; Levine warns of difficult days ahead

by PublicSource Reporters

While the daily number of new cases in Pennsylvania has not yet exceeded what the state saw in the spring, Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine on Monday reported 28 days of 1,000 or more COVID-19 infections.

The last week alone has seen five days with more than 2,000 COVID-19 infections.

In the spring, Pennsylvania saw cases reach 3,000 a day.

But with the fall surge in full swing, Levine warned of dark days ahead.

“We could see challenges to our healthcare system,” Levine said.

The Allegheny County Department of Health [ACHD] on Monday reported 264 additional COVID- infections over the past 48 hours and no new COVID-related fatalities. The newly reported cases bring the total count since March 14 to 16,060 infections.

The case tally released Monday came from 2,755 PCR tests – considered more accurate than antigen tests – conducted from Oct. 23 through Nov. 1. The new infections were among patients aged 1 to 90 years old, with the media age being 36. Roughly 68% were people younger than 50.

To date, the county has had 434 deaths and 1,453 people hospitalized because of the virus.

County-specific information and a statewide map are available on the COVID-19 Data Dashboard.
