Sylvia Wilson unanimously re-elected as PPS Board President

The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that Sylvia Wilson was unanimously elected Pittsburgh Public Schools Board President for a second term during a board organization meeting, Dec. 7.

Wilson was first elected to the board to represent District 1 in 2013, according to a news release. Before joining the board, Wilson served as the Assistant to the President of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers (PFT) and served as secretary of the PFT Executive Board for 30 years. Wilson previously taught elementary school throughout the Pittsburgh Public Schools for 26 years. For more than 20 years, she was an active volunteer with community youth baseball and football organizations. The release said that Wilson has served as the board’s first vice president and chairs of the Education, Personnel and Communication & Marketing/Public Information committees. Wilson currently serves as Board Treasurer of ALCOSAN.

 

Also at the board organization meeting, Kevin Carter was re-elected as First Vice President (third term) and Terry Kennedy as Second Vice President (third term). Superintendent of Schools Anthony Hamlet, Ed.D., was elected as Secretary of the Board.
