The Chief Program and Policy

Officer (CPPO), reporting to the

President and Chief Executive Officer,

has overall strategic and operational

responsibility for ensuring an

integrated approach to United Way

of Southwestern PA’s regional community

impact efforts. The CPPO leads

efforts to advance United Way’s

strategic goals, which include meeting

basic needs, moving individuals and

families to greater fi nancial stability

and building success in school and

life. The CPPO mobilizes community

leadership and partnerships to

address policy and systems change.

This leader is a key part of the senior

leadership team and works collaboratively

to drive the overall strategy for the

organization. The CPPO oversees

the development and application

of approaches for advancing

collective action, including convening

partners, building coalitions, forging

common agendas, facilitating public

policy efforts, organizing community

awareness campaigns, initiating,

and implementing grant making

strategies, leveraging resources,

and integrating strategies to reduce

racial, gender, and ability inequities

throughout the Community Impact

portfolio. Coordinate activities for

seeking and securing foundation,

government, and related funding to

support United Way’s work, with a

strong emphasis on PA 2-1-1 Southwest.

The work of the organization changes

as we continuously seek to have

greater impact. Must be flexible and

able to adapt to short- and long-term

shifts in job duties.

Master’s degree in public administration,

non-profit management, social

work, or the equivalent. Ten years

of progressively more responsible

management experience in philanthropy,

nonprofit sector, government, or

similar fields.

TRANSIT DATA INTERN

Port Authority is seeking a Transit

Data Intern to, during the academic

year, conduct data analysis projects

assisting Port Authority in determining

how to best deploy transit resources

across the system.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Transit Analysis team

through applying data manipulation,

analysis and visualization skills to

ongoing projects.

  • Analyze ridership patterns to inform

service decisions.

  • Assess effectiveness of service

changes, including monitoring ridership

per trip, on time performance, and

ridership by geographic area.

  • Develop interactive maps and

dashboards that allow end users to

explore transit data and discover

insights.

  • Assist with internal and external

reporting and data requests as

needed.

  • Institute back-end data management

processes such as automated

Extract-Transform-Load operations

and developing functions for commonly

used data preparation techniques.

Job requirements include:

  • At minimum, candidates must be in

their Junior or Senior year of study

in a public policy, data analysis,

computer science or related degree

program, or a similar master’s or

PhD program Recent graduates of

same programs will also be considered.

  • Data manipulation skills, including

ability to retrieve data, clean it, join

to other datasets, and export in a

clean format.

  • Strong data visualization skills that

communicate a clear message to

the end user.

  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability

to identify and solve problems

independently.

  • Interest and familiarity with public

transit (even just as a rider) and

the desire to make public services

better for everyone.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Planning and organization.

Preferred attributes:

  • Candidate enrolled in or recently

graduated from a master’s degree

program in public policy, data analysis,

computer science or related field.

  • Knowledge of a coding language

such as R or Python.

  • Knowledge of a dashboarding tool

such as Tableau or PowerBI.

  • Knowledge of a spatial analysis

tool such as ArcGIS.
