Davis admitted in his 2019 memoir that he was in the Cadillac that pulled up next to Shakur’s BMW on the night of the shooting and that he slipped the gun into the backseat. He also implicated his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, as one of the two people in the backseat who fired the shots.
Davis was arrested on Friday morning while on a walk near his home in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he has an attorney to comment on his behalf.
Shakur’s death came as his fourth solo album, “All Eyez on Me,” remained on the charts, with some 5 million copies sold. Nominated six times for a Grammy Award, Shakur is still largely considered one of the most influential and versatile rappers of all time.
The charges against Davis come nearly 27 years after Shakur’s murder, which has remained unsolved for decades. The rapper’s death was a major loss to the hip-hop community and his fans worldwide.
