SENIOR PLANNER CORRIDORS
Pittsburgh Regional Transit is seeking a Senior Planner Corridors to work in PRT’s Planning and Service Development Department within the Corridor Planning Section. This person will be responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to improve the agency’s transit services to increase ridership, expand access to opportunity and services, and create a more reliable system. This position will lead and manage planning work on transit priority projects as identified in PRT’s 2021 long-range plan, NEXTransit, such as new bus rapid transit and light rail transit. This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about transit planning, transit design, and strategic development to work with an interdisciplinary team to improve transit for the Pittsburgh region today and in the long-term.
Essential Functions:
- The Position will lead, manage, and produce conceptual design activities for PRT mostly through direct oversight of consultants through corridor and other transit projects, primarily in planning, project development, and pre-preliminary engineering stages.
- Develop and coordinate designs for transit centers, layovers, enhanced transit corridors/ Bus Rapid Transit, Light Rail, and other modes.
- Supports full design and construction of capital investments that improve the rider experience and maximize the value of PRT property to the communities we serve. This includes coordinating with relevant municipal agencies and managing public engagement through at least the planning phase of projects.
Job requirements include:
- BS/BA Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Transportation or Transit Planning, Public Administration or Policy, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Geospatial Science, Geography, or directly related field from an accredited school.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Transportation or Transit Planning, Public Administration or Policy, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Geospatial Science, Geography, or directly related field.
- Experience coordinating with transit agencies, municipalities, state, and federal government organizations with relevance to transportation and transit.
- Technical knowledge of light rail, heavy rail, commuter rail system elements and bus rapid transit design and operations including knowledge in the interactions of rail, city infrastructure and roadways.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Understanding of how to use social media and online engagement tools.
- Familiarity with transit facilities planning.
- Must be willing to take on duties outside of regular business hours for purposes such as, but not limited to, updating social media channels/website, attending community and/or PRT meetings and assisting with Communications functions.
Preferred attributes:
- Graduate Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Transportation or Transit Planning, Public Administration or Policy, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Geospatial Science, Geography, or directly related field from an accredited school.
- Experience working for a public sector agency, particularly in transit or transportation function with direct coordination and management of consultant contracts.
- Knowledge of Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s transit system.
- Experience working collaboratively with the public, especially communities of color, newcomers, or other marginalized populations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience applying sustainable infrastructure and development practices. This could include maintaining professional certifications such as Envision, LEED, SITES, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership with multi-discipline teams to execute transit- related projects, delivering projects on time and to budget.
- A working knowledge of relevant software programs for the purposes of geospatial analyses (e.g., Esri), transit routing, and/or transit scheduling.
- AICP certified, PTOE Certified, or other applicable Professional Licensure or intent to earn applicable certification or licensure.
