The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that the Light of Life Rescue Mission, on the North Side, held an “All is Bright” Christmas outreach, Thursday, Dec. 18, at its shelter location, 234 Voeghtly St. More than 1,000 Christmas meals were served along with a Christmas celebration including a winter coat and hygiene kit distribution, live music and prayer. The Courier has also learned that on the morning of Dec. 18, volunteers delivered meals to those in local high rises. All were welcome to take part in the 3 p.m. celebration and Christmas meal giveaway.
LIGHT OF LIFE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Rev. Jerrel T. Gilliam, was a member of the New Pittsburgh Courier’s “Men of Excellence” Class of 2024.
Established in 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission is a Christian nonprofit organization providing life changing recovery programs and food and shelter for Pittsburgh’s poor and homeless. Men, women, and children are provided case management and programs designed to meet diverse needs, including recovery from substance addiction, help for mental health issues, and educational courses to prepare them for careers and independent living. The Mission is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. No one is denied services based on race, creed, gender, religion, age, or national origin.
