‘Very supportive of students’
The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that Dr. Anthony Hall, who served as faculty manager and counselor at Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy and was a board member for the North Hills School District, died on June 18, 2026. The exact cause of death has not been publicly confirmed as of June 23. Dr. Hall’s age was not confirmed as of Courier press deadline.
Dr. Hall was a fixture on the sidelines of Westinghouse football contests, celebrating the team’s City League championships—or better yet, its three-peat—from 2023-25.

“Dr. Hall fought a courageous battle and leaves behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, and service that touched countless lives,” Westinghouse High School wrote on its Facebook page on the evening of June 18. “During this difficult time, we ask our Bulldog Family to keep his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tremendous loss. Please join us in sending love, strength, and comfort to the Hall family. Dr. Hall’s impact will not be forgotten, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Dr. Hall. You will be deeply missed.”
North Hills School District Board President Allison Mathis said the following about Dr. Hall, posted on the school district’s website: “Anthony was a true public servant whose opportunity to serve was tragically cut short. He believed deeply in our schools, our students, and the promise of our community to live up to its highest ideals. Anthony was passionate about equity and creating opportunities for all students to succeed. He cared deeply about ensuring that every child felt seen, valued, and supported.
“During his time on the school board, Anthony championed the values we strive to instill in our students and uphold as a district: respect, empathy, integrity, and a commitment to others. He approached his work with purpose, and he took great pride in serving our schools and community.
“Anthony was also a spirited debater who never hesitated to challenge ideas and perspectives. He invariably always gave me something to think about. His willingness to advocate passionately for what he believed made him an important voice in our community.
“On behalf of the District and Board of School Directors, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Anthony’s family and friends. We hold them in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Anthony’s dedication to our students, his commitment to equity, and his service to our community will not be forgotten.”
Reached by the Courier, Dr. Virginia Hill, principal of Westinghouse Academy, said she had a front row seat to Dr. Hall’s authentic care for students.
“He certainly had a passion for educating youth in the community, all over the city, that was his top concern,” she said. “He was an equity champion for children and a lover of the Westinghouse football program.”
Dr. Hill has been principal at Westinghouse for three years, but Dr. Hall had been involved with Westinghouse for upwards of 10 years or more.
“He was a dedicated counselor to the students,” she added. “Very communicative with parents, truly supportive of kids…”
Dr. Hill said she would be in meetings with a student and Dr. Hall. “He always made decisions in the best direction to support their future.”
