TONY NORMAN
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, the congregations of Warren United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh will host a joint community service on Sunday, July 5, at 11 a.m. The special event will feature guest speaker Tony Norman, an award-winning journalist and former columnist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The service will take place at Warren United Methodist Church, located at 2606 Centre Ave., Hill District.

REV. WILLIAM B. MEEKINS JR.
The event is designed to offer a more comprehensive and inclusive view of American independence. Norman’s address will build on the profound themes of Frederick Douglass’ historic 1852 oration, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” The presentation will explore Douglass’ timeless challenge to the church, urging faith communities to maintain a prophetic voice and actively speak out against systemic injustice. The public is warmly invited to attend this free community event.
