Steelers Nation was eager to see what they had in second-year quarterback Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar. And what they saw impressed most of them.
Howard, the Ohio State University national-championship-winning QB, played in the second quarter and into the third quarter. He finished 7-of-9 for 86 yards and a QB rating of 106.5. Allar, the Penn State University product, spelled Howard and went on a tear, throwing for two touchdowns and not looking like a rookie at all.
Allar was 10-of-13 for 153 yards with a QB rating of 154.8. While we’re mentioning quarterbacks, the Steelers’ starter for the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, Aug. 13, 2026, was Mason Rudolph. He went 10-of-11 for 93 yards in the first half.
Aaron Rodgers, who will be the Steelers’ starting quarterback when the regular season rolls around, did not play.
