Out & About with Brotha Ash

This week I visited the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood, CJ’s in the Strip District, Tim’s Bar in the Hill District and Epiphany Church in the Hill District. My first stop was at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood where the Iota Phi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. presented the Omega Mardi Gras Quesino Royale 2011. This event was off the chain as usual. There was Blackjack, Texas hold-em, a Big Money Wheel, 50/50 raffle and much more. The Delta Sigma Theta crew represented at the Mardi Gras event at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood.

This week I visited the Benedum Center in Downtown Pittsburgh, CJ’s in the Strip District, The August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Downtown Pittsburgh and Club Rozay in the Strip District. My first stop was at Club Rozay where Pittsburgh’s One and Only Official Happy Hour was held. Hip-hop artist L. King was in the building celebratin’ his birthday in grand style. My second stop was at CJ’s in the Strip District where DJ Mike “The Punisher” was on the 1’s and 2’s doin’ his thing for the crowd. Everyone came out to get their dance and party on at CJ’s. Everyone was dressed to impress at the CeCe Winans and J. Moss event at the Benedum Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.

This week I visited the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood, St. Lawrence O’Toole Hall in Garfield, Ace and Deuces Lounge in the Hill District, Kenny‘s Place in the Hill District and the Galaxy Lounge and Entertainment Center in Homewood. My first stop was at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood where Ed held his annual Oldies Cabaret featuring DJ X-Man on the 1’s and 2’s. This event was packed and everyone came out to get their party on. People from all over the city jammed into the Coliseum and it was one of the best events of the year so far. I have to shout out Ed for knowing how to throw a party. Mike and Stacey having a great time at The Oldies Cabaret at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum.

This week I visited CJ’s in the Strip District, Stage AE on the North Shore, The Shadow Lounge in East Liberty, Ace and Deuces in the Hill District and the Galaxy Lounge in Homewood. My first stop was at CJ’s in the Strip District where the Tony Campbell Band played to a packed crowd of fans. If you missed it, you really missed a great time. This week I visited Mosaic Night Club in the Strip District, CJ’s in the Strip District, Montage in Wilkinsburg, Ya Momz House Recording Studio in East Liberty and the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty. My first stop was at Mosaic Night Club in the Strip District, where Jessica Holter’s The Punany Poets presented “The Head Doctor” also featurin’ other local poets. The ladies came out to represent at the Shadow Lounge at Jenesis Magazine’s Valentine’s Day event. My next stop was at CJ’s in the Strip District, where The Variety Band performed R&B hits all night long to a packed house and everyone was on the dance floor.

This week I visited the Galaxy Lounge and Entertainment Center in Homewood, Mirror Reflections in the Strip District, Club Café in the South Side of Pittsburgh, The Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead and the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Downtown Pittsburgh. My first stop was at the Galaxy Lounge and Entertainment Center in Homewood where Pittsburgh Steeler fans watched the Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers. Even though we lost the game, we still have love for the Steelers and hopefully we will get to the Super Bowl again. My next stop was at Mirror Reflections (formerly Babylon) in the Strip District where jazz musician Kenny Blake performed for an event called “Jazz for Revive Pittsburgh.”

As I promised, here is Part II of the holiday events that I had the pleasure of celebrating with you. This week I visited the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, Club Café on the South Side of Pittsburgh, the August Wilson Center in Downtown Pittsburgh, the Circuit Center on the South Side of Pittsburgh, Calvary Baptist Church in the Hill District and the Galaxy Lounge and Entertainment Center in Homewood. My first stop was at Club Café on the South Side where R&B group Artistree held a concert featuring Rodney McCoy and Teresa Hawthorne to a sold out crowd. All of the groups did a fantastic job and celebrated the holidays with their fans. Gospel singer Fred Hammond and Chuck Sanders of Savoy Restaurant at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville.

This week I visited Westinghouse High School in Homewood, The Greater Pittsburgh Homewood Coliseum in Homewood, Club Café on the South Side, Millennial Reign Church in Homewood and the Circuit Center on the South Side. I’ve attend so many events over the holidays season that I could not fit all of the photos on this page, so this is just part one of the events I attended. I want to show love to all of you, so stay tuned for next week’s OUT AND ABOUT for photos from the Fred Hammond concert and much more. This week I visited the Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead, Art’s in the Strip, Platinum Nite Club in the Strip, AVA Lounge in East Liberty and CJ’s in the Strip. My first stop was at the Pittsburgh Improv where comedian and actor Charlie Murphy performed for his fans all weekend long. He had the audience laughing from the beginning to the end of his set. The ladies came out to get their party on at the AVA Lounge in East Liberty.

This week I visited the Zen Lounge in Station Square, Melange Bristol Bar in Downtown, Pittsburgh, The Galaxy Lounge and Entertainment Center in Homewood, CJ’S in the Strip District, Alumni Hall in Oakland and Ace and Deuces Lounge in the Hill District. My first stop was at the Zen Lounge in Station Square where K. Chase Patterson celebrated his birthday with the elite professionals of Pittsburgh. Everyone came out to show him love on his birthday and it was a classy event. Birthday man K. Chase Patterson and friend at Zen in Station Square.
