PITTSBURGH MAN TO TRIAL ON CHARGES HE SHOT OFFICER

PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Pittsburgh man must stand trial on attempted homicide and other charges for a shootout that left him and a city police officer wounded.

Nineteen-year-old Dante Bonner was ordered to trial after a preliminary hearing Thursday in the March 17 shootout with Officer Christopher Kertis.

Bonner was critically wounded after he allegedly shot Kertis in the leg during a foot chase about 3:30 a.m. that day.

Police say Kertis gave chase when Bonner ran away after police stopped a vehicle at the Port Authority East Busway Parking Lot. Police say Kertis tripped over a parking barrier, breaking both his wrists, before he was shot twice in the leg while prone.

Kertis and another officer returned fire, hitting Bonner in the torso several times.

Kertis has yet to return to duty because of his injuries.

PITTSBURGH MAN’S BODY FOUND IN PYMATUNING LAKE

LINESVILLE, Pa. (AP) – Crews have pulled the body of a Pittsburgh man from a northwestern Pennsylvania lake where the man entered the water trying to help a friend who had fallen off a boat they were on.

The body of 47-year-old Lawrence Page was found about 5 p.m. Wednesday in Pymatuning Lake.

Authorities had been searching since Saturday when Page jumped from a pontoon boat to help a woman who fell into the water. She was rescued by other people on the boat who pulled the woman with a net, but Page went under the water and couldn’t be rescued.

The lake is in Pymatuning State Park, which straddles the Ohio-Pennsylvania border about 90 miles north of Pittsburgh.
