National African-American Read-In
FEB. 1—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host the 25th National African-American Read-In from 1-4 p.m. at the Homewood Branch of the Carnegie Library, 7101 Hamilton Ave., Homewood. The goal is to make the celebration of African-American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities. For more information, visit www.carnegielibrary.org.
Teenage Driver’s Safety
FEB. 4—South Hills Chrysler Jeep Kia will host its Teenage Driver’s Safety Night from 6-8 p.m. at the South Hills Chrysler Jeep KIA Showroom, 3344 Washington Rd., McMurray. The event will allow teenage drivers and their parents an opportunity to discuss a number of topics with first responders and service professionals. Topics will include distracted driving, insurance costs and more. This is open to the public, but registration is requested. Beauty and Wellness Clinic
FEB. 7—A Hair Boutique will host a Beauty and Wellness Clinic from 7-9 p.m. at A Hair Boutique, 5510 Centre Ave., Shadyside. The event is designed to bring awareness to cardiovascular disease. The event will include an interactive wig and make-up session, along with presentations on how to “Go from Drab to Fab in 5 minutes” and tips on preventing heart disease. A portion of the proceeds will go to the American Heart Association. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required by Feb. 3 and space is limited. Father/ Daughter Dinner Dance
FEB. 8—The Allegheny Family Network will host its 3rd annual Father Daughter Dinner Dance from 5-9 p.m. at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, 478 E. Waterfront Dr., Homestead. The theme is “Making Memories, a Dance With My Father.”

BHM Celebration
FEB. 15—Grandmothers of Pearls will host its Black History Month Celebration from 3:30-6 p.m. at the Homewood branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, 7101 Hamilton Ave., Homewood. Attendees must be a grandmother or greater and wear a real or costume pearl necklace. African garb is optional and refreshments will be served. 2014 Valentine’s Extravaganza
FEB. 15—The Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund of Western Pa. and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. will host its 2014 Valentine’s Extravaganza “Party with a Cause” at 7 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel, 510 Market St., Downtown. The evening will include dinner, dancing, a program and a special tribute to the late Rex Crawley, PhD. There will be a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. Reservations are required. Education Conference
FEB. 26—The Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education Inc. will host its 44th annual PBCOHE Conference at the Double Tree Hotel/ Monroeville Convention Center, Monroeville Plaza Blvd., Monroeville. The theme is “Campus Climate: Cultural Identity-Evolution or Digression?” The conference will give attendees the opportunity to examine the needs of African-Americans and minorities in Pennsylvania when it comes to higher education. Water Polo
ONGOING—The Thelma Lovette YMCA will host Water Polo at 12 p.m. at 2114 Centre Ave., Hill District. Every Saturday in January, February and March the YMCA will offer water polo for middle school aged children.
