Enrichment Lecture Seminar
JULY 19—Seshemet Community Council will host its Enrichment Study Group Lecture Series 2014 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the CCAC Homewood Brushton Center, 701 N. Homewood Ave., Homewood. The topic will be Black health issues and Lyvonne Parker Hall will be the facilitator. This event is free and open to the public, and seating is limited. Manchester Community Block Party
JULY 19—Manchester Citizens Corporation will host the Manchester Community Block Party ’14 from 12-10 p.m. at the Manchester Elementary School Playground, North Franklin and Fulton Streets, Manchester. The event will include live music by Beauty Slap, Jacquea Mae & The Savvy Band, 3TG; spoken word; games; competitions; food and more. For more information, email info@manchestercitizens.org.
Food Competition
JULY 20—Classic Events! will host its “TASTE O’da BURGH” Food Competition at 12 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 11524 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills. This competition is for grill masters, caterers, bakers and culinary professionals. This is an opportunity for those individuals to sow off their “mad cookin’ skills.” Trophies will be awarded to the top three winners. Vendor space is available. #GetCovered!
JULY 20—The NAACP Pittsburgh Unit, Bethel AME Church and Get Covered American will host “Learn How to #GetCovered!” from 1:30-3 p.m. at Bethel AME Church, 2720 Webster Ave., Hill District. This is a seminar for individuals in need of health insurance. They will learn about financial assistance available, receive free in person assistance and more. St. Clair Village Reunion
JULY 25—St. Clair Village will host its 20th Reunion Celebration. The three-day event will include a Boat Ride on the Gateway Clipper. Proceeds will benefit the SCV scholarship fund. For more information, call Lou Shealey at 412-302-6254.
Ride For Peace
JULY 26—Iron Cross Community Ministries will host its 6th Annual Ride For Peace Motorcycle Ride at 12 p.m. at Three Rivers Harley Davidson, 1463 Glenn Ave., Glenshaw, Pa. The event will begin at Three Rivers Harley Davidson and end at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, in East Liberty, where there will be celebration after the ride. Over 200 motorcycles will be coming together in the name of unity and riding through the neighborhoods where there have been issues of violence. A continental breakfast will be served at 11 a.m. at the starting site. For more information, call Pastor Cornell Jones at 412-952-5230.
DHS SummerFood Program
ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host its annual SummerFood Program at various locations throughout the count. The program provides a free nutritious breakfast and lunch, along with recreational activities, to children up to age 18 as well as eligible individuals with disabilities on weekdays.
