On Feb. 13, Talk Magazine held their annual Black History Makers Recognition and Merit Awards. Over the course of my life I have attended, been involved, and recognized in a multitude of programs where awards were bestowed upon persons White and Black. There have been a many occasion where some of the awardees were suspect and those at the various tables would comment, “Please tell me what that individual ever did.”
It is an established fact that every person who has made a positive contribution can’t be recognized publically and there are untold numbers of individuals who don’t seek or desire recognition. The news media is saturated with Blacks, overwhelmingly males involved in negative situations so when I am afforded an opportunity to attend an affair predicated on that which is totally positive, I am delighted.
