The New Pittsburgh Courier was there as members of Duquesne Light Company’s African American business employee resource group, called “BRIDGE,” on June 9, 2026, joined representatives from the nonprofit Grounded Strategies to beautify a vacant lot along Bedford Avenue in the Hill District.
Duquesne Light and BRIDGE have made it an annual tradition to honor Juneteenth—held every June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S. —to help make a positive impact in the community and promote inclusivity and equity. Last year, the company partnered with Hosanna House to clear a vacant home in Wilkinsburg for a future family in need. This year, it was the Hill District’s turn to get beautified.
