Guild Centennial Celebration
JULY 17—The Harriet Tubman Guild Inc. will host its Centennial Celebration Black Tie Event at 5 p.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, 101 Mall Blvd., Monroeville. This celebration dinner and dance event will honor 12 members who represent the spirit of the Guild’s original 12 members. There will also be an Open House on July 18 at the Harriet Tubman Terrace, 550 Negley Run Blvd., and a Worship Service on July 19 at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Anniversary Celebration
JULY 18—Grandmothers of Pearls will host its 4th Anniversary Celebration from 3:30-6 p.m. at the Senior Center, 7321 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. Attendees must be a grandmother or greater and wear a pearl necklace, real or costume. There will be entertainment, informational and inspirational speakers, and refreshments. Youth Football Clinic
JULY 19—Wilmerding/ McKeesport YMCA will host the Russell Stuvaints Youth Football Clinic from 2-4:30 p.m. at McKeesport High School, Weigle-Schaeffer Stadium, 1960 Eden Blvd., McKeesport. Youth ages 6-13 will learn needed football skills from former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Russell Stuvaints along with other former and current NFL and NCAA players. Volunteers
JULY 20—The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police are seeking volunteers to serve on panels that will interview potential police officer candidates from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Greenway Middle School, 1400 Crucible St., Pittsburgh. Through July 30, volunteers who are free of criminal convictions of a Misdemeanor 2 or higher and are willing to sing a confidentiality agreement will sit on an oral board interview panel. There will be a mandatory training July 20 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Volunteers will be asked to commit two full days from July 21-30. Applications are available. For more information, call Cmdr. Humanae/I AM AUGUST
JULY 22—The August Wilson Center for African American Culture will host the portrait-based art installation, “Humanae/I AM AUGUST” at the August Wilson Center, 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. Through July 25, the project seeks 150 individuals to have their portraits taken for the art installation that will feature the faces of Pittsburgh. There exhibit will be installed Sept. 25 for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Gallery Crawl and remain displayed through August 2016. Groups, churches and organizations are also welcome. Financial Literacy Symposium
JULY 25—The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh’s Bank On Greater Pittsburgh in partnership with Neighborhood Allies will host a Financial Literacy Education Symposium from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at Hosanna House, 807 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg. There will be several breakout sessions, a proclamation and a gospel concert with Minister Trini Massie. This is free and open to the public, and reservations are required by July 17. Summer Enrichment Academy
ONGOING—5A Elite Youth Empowerment will host a Summer Enrichment Academy from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Community Center, 7300 Ridgeview Ave., Penn Hills. Every Friday through Aug. 28, youth ages 10-18 will participate in sports training, dance, peace building, personal awareness workshops and dinner. This is free and registration is required.
