A group of reporters gathered around Andrew McCutchen’s locker after the team was swept by the St. Louis Cardinals. Cutch was visibly upbeat and talked about how he was grateful to be alive. He referenced the Florida shootings and spoke about how he wasn’t going to let a few losses get him down. He was clearly frustrated at some points, but overall Cutch was a great brand ambassador for the Pirates. With a leader in the clubhouse like #22, the Pirates will be in good hands.

Pirates swept by Cardinals

It was an ugly weekend at PNC Park for the Pirates. The team heads to New York to take on a Mets team that is close by in the standings. We will be breaking down all of the Pirates issues in the next issue of The New Pittsburgh Courier.

Frazier’s Damon Lovis turning heads

Perryopolis, Pennsylvania was put on the WPIAL football map last year when Frazier High School shocked the area and made a deep playoff run.

This summer, a senior wide receiver has been the talk of the town. Damon Lovis has been turning heads this off season. He is only 5’9 and 165 pounds but the duel threat player is one of the strongest kids in high school football. He runs a 4.53 40yard dash.

Last season as a junior, he had 22 receptions for 453 yards with 9TD’s. He also had 8 rushes for 91 yards and and 2 rushing TD’s. Lovis had 15 punt returns for 233 yards and 1 TD. On defense he recorded 33 tackles with 3 Ints and 5 fumble recoveries . He also had 3 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, and 2 defensive touchdowns. He was able to reach a total of 14TD’s.

I personally went to see Lovis play against South Side Beaver and in that game Frazier won a thriller 33-32. However, South Side dominated parts of the game and it was Lovis who made high light wheel catches. Lovis was such a force in that game that he is on the radar for many college scouts.
