This week I visited Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland, Games N’At on the South Side, The Corner Café on the South Side, CJ’s in the Strip District, Ace and Deuces Lounge in the Hill District and The Shadow Lounge in East Liberty. My first stop was at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland where gospel legend Vickie Winans performed her gospel hits for her fans and everyone got their praise on. I have to shout out Dorian for putting together a great event. Fletcher Jones and 1st place winner Purpose at the Corner Café on the South Side.
This week I visited the Flamingo Lounge in the Hill District, a mansion in Mt. Washington, The Shadow Lounge in East Liberty and the K. Leroy Irvis Towers. My first stop was at a mansion in Mt. Washington where Distinct Sophistication held their annual event called “Elegant in Black II” featuring actor Lamman Rucker. This event has been called the party of the year by those who attended. I have to shout out Tee Jay and Terrance Brown of Distinct Sophistication for doing it up big. The city of Pittsburgh dressed to impress in black attire. This week I visited the Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead, The August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Downtown Pittsburgh, CJ’s in the Strip District, The Shadow Lounge in East Liberty and Calvary Baptist Church in the Hill District. My first stop was the Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead where comedian Arnez J. performed five shows for his fans and he is still as funny as ever. Daniel Bernard Roumain and Pittsburgh’s own Dream Job performing at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture.
This week I visited the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Downtown Pittsburgh, The Kelly Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty, Club Mosaic in the Strip District, Melange Bristol Bar and Lounge in Downtown Pittsburgh and CJ’s in the Strip District. My first stop was at CJ’s in the Strip District where DJ Mike “The Punisher” was on the 1’s and 2’s playing all the hits for the crowd. Dancers performing an African dance at the 5th Annual Keepers of the Flame Awards Introducing Dance Africa 2010 held at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater.
This week I visited West Club Lounge at Heinz Field on the North Shore, Club Whim Pittsburgh in Station Square, Kelly’s Bar in East Liberty, the North Side Elks Lounge in the Hill District, Denise and Earl’s Bar in Homewood, CJ’s in the Strip District, The Galaxy Club in Homewood, The Shadow Lounge in East Liberty and Ava Lounge in East Liberty. My first stop was at the Galaxy Club in Homewood where Denise celebrated her birthday with family and friends. Tracey Lee was on the 1’s and 2’s and had the whole party jumping. I have to shout out Dell Saunders, Artistree and Mrs. Jefferson. Jerome Bettis, Chuck Sanders and K. Chase Patterson at the West Lounge Club at Heinz Field at the annual 50 Men of Excellence Awards ceremony presented by the New Pittsburgh Courier.
This week I visited the Black Beauty Lounge in the Hill District, The Sheraton Hotel in Station Square, Calvary Baptist Church in the Hill District, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland and the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty. My first stop was the Black Beauty Lounge in the Hill District where the late Glenn Campbell was honored with a birthday celebration in his honor by family and friends. Everyone came out to honor the one and only Glenn Campbell. He is gone but not forgotten. I have to shout out Ronetta and Linda and everyone who came out to celebrate and have a great time. The models held it down at the Outrageous In Red event in Station Square at the Sheraton Hotel.
This week I visited Epiphany Church in the Hill District, CJ’s in the Strip District, Shadow Lounge in East Liberty, and Ammons Recreation Center in the Hill District, the Stop the Violence rally in the Hill District, The Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood, Red Onion in the Hill District and Heinz Field on the North Shore of Pittsburgh. The Honey Girls came out to the Whiteside Road Reunion to represent in grand style. My first stop was Epiphany Church in the Hill District where Fifth Avenue High School held their annual All Class Reunion and everyone came out to represent for the Archers.
This week I visited Whim Pittsburgh in Station Square, The Melange Bristo Bar in Downtown, Pittsburgh, The Red Onion in the Hill District, The Drum Bar at the Rivers Casino on the North shore, Babylon aka The Yacht Club in the Strip District and Tim’s Bar in the Hill District. My first stop was at the Red Onion in the Hill District where karaoke was in full effect with everyone coming out to show there skills on the microphone. People sang oldies, but goodies and the latest hits and it was a great time for everyone. Casey Hampton fans came out in full force to wish him a happy birthday.
This week I visited Babylon aka The Yacht Club in the Strip District, CJ’s in the Strip District, the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty and Mr. Kenny’s Place in the Hill District. My first stop was the Shadow Lounge where DJ J. Malls held his annual event called “Title Town Soul & Funk Party” featuring Gordy G. and Robert Wells (Ann Arbor Soul Club) on the 1’s and 2’s. Everyone came out to this event and it was a packed house. Birthday girl and King celebrating her birthday at Mr. Kenny’s Place in the Hill District.
John Koutsakis, also known as J-Kruz, was the voice of Pittsburgh urban radio at WAMO 106.7FM for several years. After the station was sold Kruz applied to Clear Channel, Radio One and anything he could find. He was sending his resume once and sometimes twice a week to different radio stations across the country and landed a job in Dallas at 97.9 The Beat as a full-time on-air radio personality. He will be starting later this month. J-KRUZ He is excited about the new opportunity ahead of him. It will be pretty similar to what he was doing here in Pittsburgh at WAMO.
