Peduto secures refund of Small Business Saturday parking charges

PITTSBURGH, PA –  Mayor-Elect Bill Peduto has secured the agreement of the Pittsburgh Parking Authority to refund parking fees erroneously charged to customers on Small Business Saturday, November 30, 2013.
The free-parking event was created by legislation sponsored by Councilman Bill Peduto to encourage customers to shop at small businesses in Pittsburgh over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Parking Authority Director David Onorato has agreed to correct the mistake, and allow any customers who paid for parking on Saturday, Novermber 30, 2013, to receive a full refund.
Dollar amounts processed by the Parking Authority on Saturday November 30, 2013 were as follows:
·        $29,564.41 total dollar amount process through kiosks
·        $24,426.16 processed via credit cards (approximately 82% of the payments)
·        $5,138.25 processed via cash payments (approximately 18% of the payments)
The Parking Authority has agreed to automatically reverse all credit card transactions, so that both the initial charge and the credit will appear on customer’s credit card statement.
Customers who paid by cash should call the Authority at (412) 560-7275 for a refund to be issued.  Customer will need to supply receipt or license plate number in addition to name and mailing address.
