BALTIMORE — The completed investigation into the mysterious death of Freddie Gray revealed that the fatal injuries were not caused by law enforcement officials, according to multiple media leaks.

Anger and anxiousness has intensified as the hours countdown to the release of the police investigation into the 40-minute ride Gray took in the back of a police transport van.

According to the investigators and media leaks:

  • Investigators state Gray’s fatal injuries were sustained in the van and not during his arrest, Washington television station WJLA reported.
  • Investigators told reporters they have now have learned of an additional stop the van made as it was traveling to a police precinct that wasn’t originally reported, according to CNN. There is no explanation as to why that additional stop was made and why the officers kept that stop out of their original report.
  • The officer driving the van believes Gray was injured before being put into the vehicle, according to a relative who gave the officer’s account to CNN. Indeed, Gray appeared to be injured and in pain — and he appeared limp — as he was dragged to the police van by the officers.
  • The second detainee, who was picked up after Gray, told investigators that he thought Gray “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” The Washington Post reports. The that second detainee, however, did not see Gray and doesn’t know if Gray was injured during the arrest or after.

Additionally, television station WJLA said “multiple law enforcement sources briefed on the police findings,” said Gray, 25, was not injured during his arrested by multiple officers.

The news station also reported that Gray’s death was caused by a “catastrophic” injury after he slammed into the back of the police transport van while inside it, “apparently breaking his neck; a head injury he sustained matches a bolt in the back of the van.”

The station said it is not known if Gray slammed into the back of the van because he was allegedly not buckled in or whether Gray caused the injury, as the other detainee who rode in the van insinuated to police and the media.

Citizens are concerned that many of the leaks about the investigation support the police, raising the ire of protesters who are gathering in Baltimore and other major cities such as New York and Philadelphia.
