Allegheny County reports 100 new COVID cases

The Allegheny County Health Department [ACHD] reported 100 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, raising the total number of infections to 9,676 since mid-March.

The reported infections are among residents between the ages of 2 and 91 and were identified within 1,648 test results. The positive test results are dated from June 23 and Aug. 19.

The county also confirmed one fatality Thursday. The individual who died of the virus was in their 70s. Since March 14, 298 county residents have died of COVID-19 and 911 have been hospitalized.

State health officials confirmed 791 cases of COVID-19 and 15 deaths Thursday. In total, 126,940 residents have contracted the virus and 7,538 have died. Nearly 1.4 million people have tested negative for COVID-19 so far.

Of the total number of infections in Pennsylvania, 9,136 are among health care workers. There have been 24,837 cases reported among residents and employees of 905 nursing homes and personal care facilities in 61 counties, including Allegheny. About 68% of the state’s reported deaths have been among residents of these facilities.
