This week I visited Heinz Hall in Downtown Pittsburgh, Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland, The Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood, Tim’s Lounge in the Hill District and the North Side Elks in the Hill District. My first stop was at Heinz Hall in Downtown Pittsburgh where the legendary Motown recording stars The Temptations and The Four Tops performed for all their fans. It was nice to hear all the old hits and some of the new. Otis Williams, the creator of the group, has been a member of The Temptations for almost 50 years. This week I visited the Pittsburgh Improv at the Waterfront in Homestead, CJ’s in the Strip District, the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood, the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty, St. Benedict The Moor Hall in the Hill District and Calvary Baptist Church in the Hill District. My first stop was at the Pittsburgh Improv at the Waterfront in Homestead where Thomas Miles, aka Nephew Tommy, performed live on stage for his fans along with Keisha Hunt, Dominique and Sonya D. If you missed it, the show was hilarious, with laughter all through the evening. The ladies came out in full force at the City Sharkers event at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum.
This week I visited the Holiday Inn in Oakland at Bridges, Ava Lounge in East Liberty, Kenny’s in the Hill District, Ace & Deuces Lounge in the Hill District, CJ’s in the Strip District and The Corner Cafe on the South Side. My first stop was at the Holiday Inn in Oakland at Bridges where B-PEP (The Black Political Empowerment Project) held their annual Jazz Fun-Raiser with many powerful jazz musicians, guest emcees and other local celebrities. Tim Stevens is the president and chairman of this organization and I’m glad to be a member. Birthday celebrations were taking place at CJ’s in the Strip District.
This week I visited the Fire House in the Strip District, Grace Presbyterian Church in the Hill District, Hard Rock Café in Station Square, South Side 86 on the South Side, The Black Beauty Lounge, Kenny’s Place and the Red Onion, all in the Hill District and CJ’s in the Strip District. First I want to give my condolences to the entire Whack family of the Hill District. Eric Whack, a long-time friend and resident of the Hill District, passed away and a tribute was held at Grace Presbyterian Church in his honor to celebrate his outstanding life. Those who knew him will miss him and he will live on in our hearts forever. The Black Beauty Lounge celebrating 35 years. Congratulations to you, Ms. Bert.
This week I visited the American Legion Post #5 in East Liberty, Kenny’s Place in the Hill District, Club Illusionz in the Strip District, Tim’s Lounge in the Hill District, The Red Onion in the Hill District, CJ’s in the Strip District, The Shadow Lounge in East Liberty and Club Heat in the Strip District. My first stop was at the American Legion Post #5 where Karen Lane celebrated her birthday with family and friends. The food was great and the music had everyone on the dance floor. All the ladies came out to show Club Heat much love in the Strip District.
This week I visited the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood, CJ’s in the Strip District, Club Heat in the Strip District, Phase III in Homewood and Billy’s Gold Door in Homewood. My first stop was at Phase III in Homewood where everyone came out to the event called “Party With The Ques!” This was the first night of the Mardi Gras event that is held every year. First I have to give my condolences to the entire Dyer family who laid to rest the beautiful Mara Dyer-Knox this past weekend. I grew up with Mara and she had a smile that would light up any room and a heart of gold. All who knew her will truly miss her. This week I visited Calvary Baptist Church in the Hill District, Ava Lounge in East Liberty, Tana Ethiopian Cuisine in East Liberty, Tim’s Lounge in the Hill District, CJ’s in the Strip District and Billy’s Gold Door in Homewood. All the ladies came out to the March Mingle at Ava Lounge in East Liberty.
This week I visited Billy’s Gold in Homewood, Questions Night Club in the Strip District, Tim’s Lounge in the Hill District, Chocolate City in Homewood, Kenny’s Place in the Hill District and Olive or Twist in Downtown Pittsburgh. My first stop was Billy’s Gold in Homewood where the grown folks come to hang out and get their party and drink on. This is a 30 and over establishment, so no young bucks allowed. Birthday celebrations took place at Chocolate City in Homewood and the place was packed with people.
Energy was high among those nominated for Dwayne Muhammad’s 4th Annual Pittsburgh Hip Hop Awards Feb. 21 at the Hilton Hotel Grandroom. Jasiri X was up for the most awards with seven nominations, winning three. JASIRI X with models holding his three awards. The awards show was originally scheduled for Feb. 6, but because of the major snowstorm that devastated the east coast, it had to be rescheduled. “This is the fourth time that the city of Pittsburgh has come out to show support for the Pittsburgh Hip Hop Awards because it’s the biggest music industry event in the city,” said Muhammad. “This event is held to recognize artists, producers, businesses, etc. and the energy is always high.”
